Opal was selected by competitive bid to implement a Source Removal project at the former Northeast Chemical plant site in Wilmington, North Carolina adjacent to the Cape Fear River. The site was delineated with flood protection berms that were removed and replaced as part of this work. The project involved preparation and approval of work plans, the removal of lead and arsenic contaminated soils, neutralizing 5,707 yd3 of low pH soils, stabilizing 1,877 yd3 of lead to pass leachability criteria, and off-site transportation and disposal of a total of 11,382 tons of affected soils. Lead soils were stabilized utilizing American Minerals’ Enviro-Blend chemical amendment.
