Opal was retained to demolish and close over 40 abandoned crude oil truck loading stations and terminal facilities located at various locations in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas and Colorado. The project included the recovery of waste oils and sludges, removal and capping of buried underground pipelines, excavation, transportation and disposal of petroleum-impacted soils, asbestos surveys, demolition and removal of surface structures and office buildings, including contained hazardous materials such as asbestos, paints, nickel/cadmium batteries and PCB-containing transformers. Materials and metals were salvaged whenever practical.
